Cloudflare Puts a Number on Whether ChatGPT and Claude Recommend You
The AEO Visibility Dashboard, released in early access on August 6, scores Citation Rate, Prominence, Mention Rate, and Share of Voice using network-layer crawl and referral data from Cloudflare's own infrastructure.
Cloudflare pushed its AEO Visibility Dashboard into early access on August 6, adding a second component to the company's Answer Engine Optimization Suite and, more consequentially, dragging a previously invisible customer-acquisition channel into something a small business can actually measure.
The pitch is straightforward. When a prospect asks Claude or GPT for a recommendation and your site isn't cited, no analytics tool will ever tell you the sale happened. Cloudflare's dashboard scores four metrics against category competitors: Citation Rate, Prominence, Mention Rate, and Share of Voice, plus an Industry Fit score that measures whether an assistant places the site alongside its actual competitors. The mechanic that separates it from a crowded field of entrants is data provenance. Competitors sample test prompts. Cloudflare uses network-layer crawl and referral signals from its own infrastructure, first-party data, per Adweek, "to reveal how answer engines are using their content." The company's press release calls the test-prompt method "limited in scale and prone to inconsistency."
Under the hood, Cloudflare AI Gateway routes queries to assistants including Claude and GPT without specifying a brand, and Workers AI reads and scores the replies. Engineering leads Matthew Conroy and Jack Galilee, writing on the Cloudflare blog, note that a high mention rate paired with a low citation rate "separates awareness from attribution." They also drop the statistic that reframes the entire product category: fewer than half of all HTML page requests on Cloudflare's network now come from a human.
That number is the argument. If most of your traffic is already crawlers feeding models, the question of whether those models then recommend you isn't marketing exotica. It's the discovery funnel.
Stephanie Cohen, Cloudflare's Chief Strategy Officer, put it in plainer terms: "Being discoverable used to mean ranking on a page. That's not enough anymore… the moments that matter, like when someone asks an AI for a recommendation and gets an answer back, are happening at scale, invisibly, without most brands knowing if they're in the conversation at all."
The field around Cloudflare is dense. MarTech's August 20 roundup listed Similarweb AI Ads, Somantra's Brand Engagement Score, OtterlyAI Agent Analytics, and Informa TechTarget's B2B AI Authority Index, all shipping in the same window. Each is trying to name the same problem. Cloudflare is the only one with a plausible claim to seeing the traffic itself.
Access is by request from the Overview tab of the Cloudflare dashboard. The category will consolidate, and probably fast, measurement layers historically accrue to whoever sits closest to the pipe. Cloudflare, for now, sits closer than anyone.
